OFFICIAL RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR 2011 COMPETITORS


THE LOUISIANA CRAWFISH BOIL CHAMPIONSHIPS IS A CHARITABLE EVENT SPONSORED BY THE IC POPS ON THE BEHALF OF IMMACULATE CONCEPTION SCHOOL. THE PURPOSE IS TO RAISE FUNDS FOR SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS WHILE PROVIDING AN ENTERTAINING EVENT FOR ALL TO ENJOY AND A GOOD-NATURED  COMPETITION FOR THOSE IN THE COMMUNITY WHO WISH TO PROVE THEY HAVE THE BEST BOILED CRAWFISH.

THE IC POPS IS THE DAD’S CLUB OF IMMACULATE CONCEPTION SCHOOL. ITS MEMBERS INCLUDE THOSE FATHERS OF CHILDREN WHO ATTEND IMMACULATE  CONCEPTION SCHOOL, AND THOSE MEMBERS OF THE LOCAL COMMUNITY INTERESTED IN PROMOTING THE WELFARE OF IMMACULATE CONCEPTION SCHOOL AND   ITS STUDENTS, FACULTY AND FAMILIES.

Eligibility Requirements to Field a Team

THE COMPETITION WILL BE LIMITED TO A MAXIMUM OF 50 TEAMS.

EACH TEAM WILL BE LIMITED TO A MAXIMUM OF FIVE PERSONS, 18 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER.

EACH MEMBER OF THE TEAM IS ENCOURAGED TO WEAR IDENTICAL CAPS, T-SHIRTS OR APRONS TO IDENTIFY THAT EACH IS A MEMBER OF A TEAM. BUSINESS SPONSORS ARE WELCOMED.  THE CAPTAIN OF EACH TEAM THAT QUALIFIES FOR THE CONTEST WILL BE PROVIDED TEN PASSES. THE PASSES WILL ALLOW TEAM MEMBERS ENTRY ON TO THE FAIR GROUNDS AND INTO THE RESTRICTED BOILING AREAS.

ANY EXTRA PERSONS (OVER 10) ASSOCIATED WITH ANY TEAM MUST PAY THE PRICE OF ADMISSION UPON ENTRY. EXTRA PERSONS ASSOCIATED WITH THE TEAM WILL BE ALLOWED IN SERVING AREAS BUT NOT ALLOWED IN THE RESTRICTED BOILING AREAS AND WILL BE LIMITED TO 5. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Entry Requirements for Contestants

A FULLY COMPLETED ENTRY FORM AND FEE MUST BE SUBMITTED BEFORE MARCH 11TH, 2011. THIS YEAR’S FEE IS A FLAT ENTRY FEE OF $100. FOR THIS ENTRY FEE, THE TEAM WILL GAIN ENTRY TO THE COMPETITION, GET 10 TEAM ADMISSION ARMBANDS AND HAVE THEIR TEAM NAME LISTED AS A SPONSOR ON THE 2011 COMMERATIVE T-SHIRT. THIS ENTRANCE FEE IS NON-REFUNDABLE FOR THOSE TEAMS WHICH ARE ACCEPTED INTO THE COMPETITION. CHECKS ARE TO BE MADE PAYABLE TO THE I.C. POPS.

THE FIRST FIFTY TEAMS THAT QUALIFY WILL BE GUARANTEED ENTRY.

EACH TEAM WILL DONATE ITS BOILED CRAWFISH, CORN, POTATOES, SAUSAGE AND TIME TO IMMACULATE CONCEPTION SCHOOL. CHECK WITH YOUR ACCOUNTANT TO VERIFY THAT YOUR DONATION IS TAX DEDUCTIBLE.

EACH TEAM SHALL BOIL A MINIMUM OF 250 POUNDS OF LIVE CRAWFISH FOR THE COMPETITION ON THE DAY OF THE CONTEST IN THIER ASSIGNED BOILING AREA.

A MINIMUM OF 10 LBS OF SAUSAGE, 10 LBS OF CORN, AND 10 LBS OF POTATOES SHALL ALSO BE PROVIDED BY EACH TEAM IF THEY WISH TO COMPETE IN THESE CATEGORIES. COMPETITION IN ANY CATEGORY OTHER THAN CRAWFISH IS STRICTLY OPTIONAL.

ALL CRAWFISH, SAUSAGE, CORN AND POTATOES MUST BE HANDLED IN A SANITARY MANNER AND BOILED ON THE DAY OF THE CONTEST, IN THE DESIGNATED AREAS.

CRAWFISH, CORN, POTATOES AND SAUSAGE MUST BE AVAILABLE FOR JUDGING BY 11:00 A.M. ON THE MORNING OF THE COMPETITION. PLEASE CUT THESE ITEMS INTO BITE-SIZED PIECES IN ORDER TO ENSURE THERE IS
SUFFICIENT SUPPLY FOR THE JUDGES TO SAMPLE.

THE TEAM SERVING AREAS MUST BE STAFFED BY TEAM MEMBERS OR THEIR ASSOCIATES BEGINNING AT 10:00 AM. ALL TEAM SERVING AREAS MUST HAVE A MINIMUM OF 50 LBS OF BOILED CRAWFISH DELIVERED TO SERVING AREAS AND AVAILABLE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC FOR SAMPLING BY 12 NOON ON THE DAY OF THE CONTEST

ALL BOILING MUST BE COMPLETED BY 5 P.M. AND DELIVERED TO SERVING AREAS BY 5:30 P.M. TEAM MEMBERS AND ASSOCIATES SHALL REMAIN IN THEIR SERVING AREAS DISTRIBUTING CRAWFISH TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC UNTIL THEIR SUPPLY OF CRAWFISH IS DEPLETED. TEAMS WILL BE ENCOURAGED TO BOIL MORE THAN THE MINIMUM IN ORDER TO ENSURE THAT AN ADEQUATE SUPPLY OF CRAWFISH IS AVAILABLE FOR ALL PAYING GUESTS.

IN ORDER TO ENSURE THAT EACH PAID ADMISSION OBTAINS A SUFFICIENT SAMPLING OF THE CRAWFISH, THE SAMPLE POTIONS OFFERED TO THE PUBLIC WILL BE LIMITED IN SIZE AND QUANTITY BY ORGANIZORS AND THE NUMBER OF GENERAL ADMISSION TICKETS WILL BE LIMITED TO 5000.

EACH TEAM IS RESPONSIBLE FOR MAINTAINING CLEAN AND SAFE BOILING AND SERVING AREAS. BOILING AREAS AND SERVING AREAS WILL BE DESIGNATED WITH A NUMBER FOR EACH TEAM. THESE NUMBERS MUST BE ATTACHED TO THE BOOTHS AND DISPLAYED AT ALL TIMES.

EACH TEAM IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR OWN EQUIPMENT AND UTENSILS TO BOTH BOIL AND SERVE ITS CRAWFISH TO THE PUBLIC. EXAMPLES OF UTENSILS AND EQUIPMENT INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO, BOILING POTS, BOILING BASKETS, ICE CHESTS, ICE, BURNERS, KNIVES, CHOPPING BOARDS, TABLES, CHAIRS, GARBAGE BAGS, ETC.. PROPANE TANKS OR FUEL TANKS SHALL BE IN GOOD WORKING ORDER AND WITHIN CODE AS PER FEDERAL AND STATE STANDARDS AND REGULATIONS.

PARKING WILL BE LIMITED. TEAMS WILL BE ALLOWED TO BRING THEIR VEHICLES INTO THE PARKING AREA ON FRIDAY, APRIL 1ST BEFORE 6PM ONLY! AFTER 6 PM EQUIPMENT WILL HAVE TO BE HAND CARRIED INTO THE BOILING AREAS.

EACH TEAM IS RESPONSIBLE FOR TRANSPORTING ITS OWN EQUIPMENT, SUPPLIES, TABLES, ETC.

EACH TEAM MUST HAVE A PORTABLE FIRE EXTINGUISHER AT THEIR BOILING SITE.

COMPETITION OFFICIALS WILL SUPPLY WATER AND DRAINS FOR EACH BOILING AREA.

NO ELECTRICAL POWER WILL BE SUPPLIED.

WATER AND DRAINS WILL BE SHARED BETWEEN TEAMS SO COOPERATION AND GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP IS EXPECTED AND ENCOURAGED.

OFFICIALS WILL ONLY SUPPLY SERVING CONTAINERS FOR EACH TEAM'S SERVING AREA.

OFFICIALS ENCOURAGE EACH TEAM TO DISPLAY A REASONABLY SIZED BANNER OR LOGO THAT IDENTIFIES THEIR TEAM AND SPONSORS.

TEAMS WILL BE ALLOWED TO BRING IN ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES FOR CONSUMPTION BY THEIR TEAMS ONLY. ICE CHESTS CONTAINING ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES WILL ONLY BE ALLOWED IN THE RESTRICTED BOILING AREAS. BECAUSE OF THE LIABILITY REASONS, TEAMS WILL BE PROHIBITED FROM DISTRIBUTING BEER OR OTHER ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC. THERE WILL BE REASONABLY PRICED BEER AND DRINK CONCESSIONS OPEN WHEN THE GENERAL PUBLIC ENTERS THE GROUNDS.

IMMACULATE CONCEPTION SCHOOL AND COMPETITION OFFICIALS RESERVE THE RIGHT TO REMOVE ANYONE FROM THE FAIR GROUNDS FOR ANY REASON AND TO REVISE THESE RULES AND REGULATIONS PRIOR TO THE COMMENCEMENT OF THE COMPETITION TO ADJUST FOR UNFORSEEN CIRCUMSTANCES.

BOILING LOCATIONS WILL BE ASSIGNED TO TEAMS ON A FIRST COME, FIRST PAID BASIS. RETURNING TEAMS SHALL HAVE THEIR SAME SPOT AS LAST YEAR (IF DESIRED) AS LONG AS THEIR APPLICATION AND FEES ARE
RETURNED BY MARCH 11, 2010. THOSE RETURNING TEAMS THAT DO NOT WANT THEIR RETURNIING SPOT, CAN CHOOSE ANOTHER BOILING SPOT AFTER MARCH 11, 2010 ON A FIRST COME FIRST PAID BASIS. THESE TEAMS WILL BE NOTIFIED BY PHONE AND E-MAIL AS TO THE LOCATIONS OF THE AVALIABLE SPOTS. THOSE TEAMS THAT WANT TO BE LOCATED NEXT TO EACH OTHER SHOULD SUBMIT THEIR ENTRIES TOGETHER, AND AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. CHOICE OF LOCATION IS SUBJECT TO AVAILABILITY, AND NO TEAM CAN BE GUARANTEED THEIR CHOICE WILL BE AVAILABLE. A MAP OF THE FAIRGOUNDS IS INCLUDED WITH THIS PACKET.


 
The Competition

A PANEL SELECTED BY EVENT ORGANIZERS WILL CONDUCT THE JUDGING IN SECRET.

EACH TEAM CAPTAIN WILL BE GIVEN A CONTAINER WITH AN INFORMATION SLIP ATTACHED AND AN ENVELOPE. ADDITIONAL CONTAINERS AND ENVELOPES WILL BE GIVEN IF A TEAM HAS ENTERED THE CORN, POTATO OR SAUSAGE COMPETITION.

EACH CAPTAIN MUST:

FILL OUT THE IDENTIFICATION SLIP CONTAINED IN THE CONTAINER(S). THE IDENTIFICATION SLIP MUST ONLY CONTAIN THE NAME OF THE COOKING TEAM, BOOTH NUMBER, AND TEAM CAPTAIN. PLACE THE IDENTIFICATION SLIP IN THE ENVELOPES. THE ENVELOPES AND CONTAINERS SHALL BE VOID OF ANY MARKINGS. FILL THE CONTAINER TO THE TOP WITH BOILED CRAWFISH. IF PARTICIPATION IN THE CORN, POTATO OR SAUSAGE COMPETITION, FILL UP THE ADDITIONAL CONTAINERS WITH CORN, POTATO AND SAUSAGE. DELIVER THE SAID CONTAINERS AND ENVELOPES TO THE DESIGNATED COLLECTION AREA WHEN CALLED FOR BY OFFICIALS.

AWARDS WILL BE GIVEN FOR FIRST THROUGH FIFTH PLACE IN EACH OF THE FIVE CATEGORIES.

IN ADDITION TO THE ABOVE, NAME OF THE FIRST PLACE TEAM FOR THE CRAWFISH CATEGORY WILL BE PLACED ON A "PERPETUAL" WALL PLAQUE THAT WILL BE DISPLAYED ON SCHOOL GROUNDS.

THIS IS A NON-PROFIT EVENT DESIGNED TO BENEFIT IMMACULATE CONCEPTION SCHOOL.

ALL DECISIONS BY JUDGES ARE FINAL.

TIMES AND DATES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE.

FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE RULES WILL RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATION
